Day 3 of our trip to California

Today was a good day.  Our shortest day yet at around 500 miles.  We woke up on route 66 in our neat little motel.  It was an experience to shower in a shower that small.  We sure are spoiled today with our large bathrooms.  After we loaded up the car and told the nice owners goodbye we headed down the road to the Kik66 diner.  The kids ate at the counter and thought that was neat.

We then headed on through New Mexico.  The terrain was so different from Texas.  All the red rocks and tumbleweeds and the elevation!!!  We got over 6000 ft above sea level; which for us beach side dwellers seemed really high.  Emily learned how to clear her ears today:)  She also was excitied to see her first Native American/Indian today.  I have explained to her that she has seen Native Americans before, and doesn't even realize it.

We went over the Continental Divide today.  It is so neat to be driving along, and seeing the sign and Daniel going, "we read about that in history!"  Then Emily wanted to know what that meant so we had a little impromtu school today.

We made it out of New Mexico and into Arizona.  We are staying in Flagstaff.  It is really beautiful here.  The people are all friendly and it is a dog friendly town.  Everywhere you look there is a dog.  Makes me miss Lucy.

I realized today, again, how special America is.  We live in a very diverse land, with so many people.  It really is amazing.  I am very thankful I was born an American.

Tomorrow we arrive in Riverside and it will be great to see all of our family.  We have so much to be thankful for and this year for Thanksgiving we are thankful to be with the Lee family.  We never have celebrated with our family in California.  This should be fun.:)  It also will be neat to see what the kids think.  They have only had Thanksgiving at home.
